A World In Crisis

Our planet has been abused by its inhabitants for generations. However, the emergence of single-use plastic since the early 1950s has done more to destroy the earth than at any time in modern history.

Today the oceans are paralyzed by mountains of plastic islands around the world now believed to be the mass of Mexico or perhaps even Brazil. 88% of the ocean surface is polluted by PET plastic waste. Up to 14,000,000 pounds of PET waste enters the ocean every year.

Food Safety

PET products, including water and other beverage bottles, are petroleum based. Research conducted at New York University Fredonia confirmed that plastic PET bottles contain poly propylene, poly styrene and nylon as well as industrial lubricant used in their manufacture.

These toxins are released into the liquid determined at a rate largely controlled by the amount of heat during transport. Bottled water prices are extremely competitive. It is rare when water is shipped at a higher refrigerated price.

Everyone has heard that it is unsafe to microwave PET containers or to drink water from a bottle left in a hot car. While both statements are true the problem reaches far beyond a hot car. Temperatures in unrefrigerated containers can reach temperatures in excess of 140° degrees Fahrenheit.

The mass destruction caused by PET products in just a few decades is almost unbelievable. Yet, sadly it is only too true. Attempts at recycling while admirable have proven to be largely ineffective - 90% of the world‘s plastic production is not recycled in any form.  Thus, our planet and especially the oceans have become a massive garbage dump. It simply cannot continue. Specifically, the areas of major and immediate concern can be broken down into the following categories:

1) food safety
2) destruction of our fisheries and natural resources
3) climate control

Food Safety

PET bottles are known to leach chemicals into the liquid they contain. The process of leaching is facilitated by heat. One of these leached toxins is polyethylene terephthalate which is known to leach a harmful metal that can cause lung, heart and intestinal problems. Research also suggests that at certain exposure levels some of the chemicals in PET products such as BPA (Bisphenol A) are leached and may cause cancer in people.

So, by the time water reaches the air conditioned supermarket it has already been exposed to extreme temperatures. Thus, toxins found in the petroleum bottles have already been released into the liquid beverage and are ready for human consumption.

In January 2010 the FDA, which had previously said that PET bottles were entirely safe, took a new position and began to look at the potential health issues presented by leaching from PET bottles. Their European counterpart the EU food safety authority has taken the position that small micro plastic particles created from the breakdown of PET products can enter the bloodstream and organs via the intestinal wall.

Climate Control

Climate Control

This subject continues to dominate world conversations in the areas of temperature extremes, melting of ice caps, change of landscapes and related issues. Yet very little is said about the effect PET products and microplastics are having on this catastrophic problem.

Approximately 50% of the planet’s oxygen comes from the ocean. Plankton is the greatest producer of the planet’s oxygen. These organisms capture carbon through photosynthesis. Unfortunately, these live organisms also consume micro plastics. Plankton remove and store large amounts of atmospheric carbon which reduces carbon content and thereby mitigates the greenhouse gas effect.

While micro plastics are not the only cause of continuing world disappearance of plankton, it is certainly a large contributor. A vicious cycle has emerged whereby micro plastics destroy plankton which produces the worlds oxygen and takes carbon from the atmosphere which creates warmer oceans. Increased heat in the oceans then destroys even more plankton. At some point in the not too distant future, our ocean food supply will be totally destroyed if this destructive cycle is not reversed immediately.

The Solution

While most people are aware of some of the problems associated with ocean plastic contamination, they are less aware of the health risk that are posed by
consumption of liquids contained in a PET bottle. We believe that potential health problems caused by consuming liquid from previously heated PET bottles is a reality and must also be addressed.

Truthfully, we currently lack the capacity to change the world in a day.  Pure Form Solution has raced against the clock for the past six years in pursuit of our mission to produce a 100% organic bottle cap.. Unfortunately, over two years the world pandemic halted our research and development with some of the world’s leading scientists.

However, with much persistence and determination by many of our allies in the scientific community we have at last reached phase one of our goal. Our bottle Is also suitable for acidic fruit juices, milk jugs, and countless products currently made from PET plastic. Other companies have already made great contributions with the production of organic drinking straws and related products. Today we have basically all PET products in our sites.

Pure Form Solution is the producer of bottled water which literally is 100% organic. The bottle and cap are made from sugar cane. The resin also includes trace calcium which when ingested by sea life is actually healthy. There is absolutely no petroleum or non-organic substance in this product.

Thus, when the bottle burns there is no smoke or carbon emission. Actually, when one lights a match to the bottle it literally smells like caramel candy. When it cools the caramelized sugar cane actually taste sweet. This phenomenon led us to the University of Illinois and Dr. Matt Wheeler at the University of Illinois.  The University is a world leader in development of animal feed. You guessed it! We are recovering every bottle possible for conversion into a sweet animal feed. Other uses for the return bottles are numerous.

Perhaps the most promising is the recycling of empty bottles for the production of 3-D printing material. Collectively we are producing millions of bottles per month with total production in the United States. This is just the beginning, but it’s a significant start! Join us in our quest to make the planet healthier and safer for generations to come!
